Our Approach to ADHD Support
At Equal Psychology, we know that ADHD isn’t just about focus or attention — it’s about how your brain manages energy across the day. Living with ADHD often means navigating cycles of motivation, effort, and fatigue that others may not see. Recognising these patterns is the first step in working with your brain, rather than against it.
Some of the areas we focus on:
-
Understanding energy patterns: Helping you notice when your focus is at its best and how to align tasks with those times.
-
Practical strategies: Developing realistic systems for organisation, time management, and daily demands that conserve energy instead of draining it.
-
Emotional wellbeing: Exploring the mental load of ADHD, including the stress of masking, the impact on relationships, and the hidden effort of “just getting through the day.”
-
Personalised care: Every experience of ADHD is different. Together, we find approaches that fit your lifestyle, values, and goals.
We don’t prescribe or manage medication — that’s a psychiatrist’s role. Our focus is on psychological support: building awareness, reducing stress, and creating sustainable ways of working with your ADHD.

Why we take this approach
It’s easy to find strategies for ADHD online; planners, apps, tips, and tricks. The harder part is knowing how to make them work for you. What helps one day may not help the next, and that isn’t failure — it’s part of the process.
That’s why our approach is grounded in adult learning principles. We focus on building self-understanding, not just handing over strategies. When you develop a habit of non-judgemental reflection, you’re better able to notice what’s happening, explore it with curiosity, and make adjustments that fit where you are in that moment, instead of where you think you “should” be.
This way, ADHD support becomes less about chasing the “perfect system” and more about creating flexible, sustainable ways to work with your brain.
ADHD Assessment
While it is often more cost-effective to seek an ADHD assessment through a psychiatrist, we also provide comprehensive psychological assessments. But for those not interested in exploring medical treatment, our approach goes beyond the diagnostic criteria, focusing on self-understanding as the foundation of effective ADHD support.
An assessment with us explores not only whether ADHD is present, but also how your patterns of attention, energy, and daily functioning affect your life. This deeper perspective helps you make sense of your experiences and creates a clearer starting point for meaningful support.
