Equal Psychology, Online

Online psychologist

We see clients right across Australia by video. Same therapists, same way of working, from wherever you are.

  • Available: Australia-wide
  • Platform: Microsoft Teams
  • Who: Adults and older adults

Is online right for you?

Online sessions suit a lot of people. No travel, no waiting room, and you can be seen from home or anywhere private. For most of the work we do, an online session runs much the same as sitting in the room together.

Online isn't the right fit for everyone. It's not suitable during an acute crisis or when someone is at immediate risk. Our online sessions are for adults (18 and over).

How online sessions work

  • Platform. Microsoft Teams. You don't need a Teams account or a subscription.
  • Joining. You'll receive a link before each session. Click it at your appointment time, from your web browser or the Teams app.
  • What you need. A device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and a private space where you won't be interrupted.
  • Privacy. Teams is encrypted and we don't record sessions. As part of intake we'll ask for an emergency contact, the same as we would for an in-person session.

Common questions about online sessions

Does Medicare cover online sessions?
Yes. Online sessions attract the same Medicare rebate as in-person sessions when you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. The rebate and session fee are the same whether you see us in the room or by video. You can see the full breakdown on our fees page.
What happens if my connection drops mid-session?
If we lose the connection, we'll call you so we can keep going or sort out what's next. It happens from time to time and it isn't a problem.
Do I need to download anything?
No. We'll send you a link before your session. You click it at your appointment time and join from your web browser. You can use the Microsoft Teams app if you'd prefer, but you don't have to.
Can anyone else see or join my session?
No. It's just you and your psychologist. The link is unique to your session and can't be reused, and we don't record sessions.
Is online as good as in person?
It depends on the person. Some people take to online straight away and find it easier to fit into their life. Others prefer being in the room. Neither is more correct, and you can switch between online and in-person sessions as suits you. If you're not sure, a free Meet and Greet is a low-stakes way to get a feel for it.
